baby shower

A few weeks ago, my son and I attended a baby shower for his teacher. The kids planned the whole thing! They set up the games, decorated and made the food. It was adorable! There were over 30 kids there and almost half were boys. The boys were so interested in the shower  - it was fun to watch them so engaged with all the baby excitement.

Our son had a great time and he is excited to have his teacher back in the classroom in time for his birthday!

Friday was his teacher's last day before maternity leave. When I picked him up at the bus stop yesterday he was so excited to tell me that she had her baby that morning. "He is so cute!" 

 

the halloween haul

For a 2nd year in a row, we joined the majority of our son's classmates for an evening of trick or treating. I'm not sure who enjoys it more - the parents or the kids. We typically start off at the neighbors for dinner and then we all make our way to the trick or treat destination. 

Not only do the kids get oodles and oodles of candy, but there are drinks provided to the parents along the way. My favorite is the steaming hot toddy with mulled cider coming in as a close 2nd. For 2 years in a row our son has arrived at the same time as one of his buddies and they ended up going door to door again this year. It's nice to see him chatting it up with his friend as they make sure they don't miss any houses.

We had a great evening and were very thankful that it didn't rain. Here is the kid's haul - he ended up sorting it all out by type - which was pretty funny. I'm still hoping we can convince him to sell his candy to the dentist - us parents can't handle the temptation of all this candy!

Now that our son is a little older, we can take him on longer hikes. Last weekend we went on a 5 mile hike and he did great - mainly because there were other kids there and they all wanted to keep up with each other. This weekend it was just us and there was a lot of complaining at the start of the hike. It was definately worth the effort.

On our way down, the kid actually said he had fun! 

3rd grade

I think I blinked and summer was over! We managed to have a very relaxing summer and today we transition to 3rd grade. As you might guess from the photo, he picked out his outfit!
